Congratulations to All Riders in the Nov. 2nd Halloween Show

Everyone was a winner at this show. Eleven gorgeously costumed riders competed Sunday November 2nd at the annual Halloween Horse Show. A cat rode Lily. An Indian princess rode Magnolia. Fairies rode Apache, Scotchie and McCloud. A Snow Queen and Santa himself (herself) made an appearance. Funniest winner was Coal in the Apple Eating Race! Check out pictures of the Halloween costumes and the jumping demonstration.

Show News!

We hope that everyone can come to see the riders this Sunday, November 2. The jumping classes will allow our instructors a chance to see who might be ready for an away show. There will be a high jump demonstration during the noon break. At 1:30, the costumed junior riders will enter the ring for games and contests of riding skill.

There will be a bake sale going on. Some "real food" will also be available!

Experienced riders are welcome to sign up for the trail ride planned for Saturday, October 11th at 11AM. Sunday's ride will start at noon. Plan to arrive a half hour before the ride to check in, tack up and assemble for the ride. Rating on these rides is "easy", suitable for beginner and novice riders who know how to tack, walk and trot. Houston rarely has such cool weather. Join us done the trail.

Running Like Old Times

Friday, September 26 was a busy day at Hermann Park Stables and Sam Houston Equestrian Center. Everyone was buzzing with stories about how they survived Hurricane Ike. Students were thankful that the barn suffered no damage. A few students who lived near the shores of Galveston Bay did return to damaged homes. Our sympathy goes out to them.

Classes in Session Saturday, Sept. 20

We hope everyone's safe and secure following the hurricane. A few students have come by for lessons the past few days and Mr. Larry's girls are handling things very well. We are scheduled to have a party on Saturday and another on Sunday this weekend. Helpers will be appreciated. Regular classes will be in session starting Saturday. Sign up for Hurrication Camp all next week--as long as kids are out of school.

Not a Scratch from Hurricane Ike

Sam Houston Equestrian Center weathered the storm without a scratch. All the horses were fine thanks to the amazing preparations made by everyone at the stables. Across the road, the horses seemed okay but the barn is now without a roof. Tatonka's mother and Spirit (his dad) next door seemed okay too. A few trees were down.

Preparations for Hurricane Ike

Like most Houstonians, Sam Houston Equestrian Center will shelter in place during the storm. The horses will be fine, snug in their stalls and high above any water. The drainage at the barn is very good. Even during tropical storms, the horses will be fine. Today Thursday and Friday, staff will be getting everything moveable under cover. Plans at present include a closure on Saturday.

Since many people plan to evacuate and traffic on roads will be congested, students are advised to call if they feel they need to cancel. No classes on Saturday and Sunday is a "wait and see".
